After the death of King Hamlet, no person weeped more than I. But today, I weep with joy; Claudius, our new king, has not only brought stability to this grand kingdom, but to all of Scandinavia. From Spain to Austria, the new Sovereign of Denmark has earned the respect of Europe’s most powerful kings. I am forever with Claudius, just as I was forever with King Hamlet.
So, what will he do? Expect more of the successful foreign and domestic policy found within King Hamlet’s rule, combined with reforms that will improve efficiency and quality of life. I cannot speak to specifics, just to joy and optimism. Finally, competent governance has been brought to Denmark!
Nevertheless, doubters and panicans continue to spread misinformation in a useless effort to destabilize this new progress. I ask every man, from the court to the lords to the peasants for patience and cooperation. Specifically, I wish for anyone with knowledge of plots against the king to come forward, especially knowledge of who wrote the treasonous peace featured in this very publication days ago!
Choices / Thought Process
I interpreted Gertrude as a participant in Claudius’ takeover. I’m not confident in her specific motivations or the extent of her knowledge, but she isn’t shown to resist Claudius in any way within the text. I am using language similar to a current political movement throughout this project, partially because it’s funny and partially because it’s topical. Panican: “A new party based on Weak and Stupid people”.
